News: Stern Action Awaits ‘Insiders’ Involved In Johor Housing Scam

Apr 11, 2019

The state government of Johor is ready to take stern action against housing secretariat officers or staffs who connive with agents to cheat people looking to purchase affordable houses.

This comes as Johor Housing and Rural Development Committee chairman Dzulkefly Ahmad did not rule out the possibility that insiders may be involved in such activity, reported The Star.

“Stern action will be taken against those responsible if it is proven that insiders are involved,” he said.

“I have received complaints that some of these agents are loitering near the secretariat office to look for victims…My officers will look out for them.”

In fact, the state government has roped in the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to help investigate the scams related to the Johor Affordable Housing scheme, in addition to the ongoing investigation by the police.

“The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has started investigations into the matter and we will give our full cooperation,” said Dzulkefly.

So far, no information was found linking secretariat staff or officers to the scam.

It was previously reported that many people in Johor had been tricked into making payments for the acquisition of affordable homes, with some handing out thousands of ringgit to scammers.
